CHDC's mission is to develop and maintain housing opportunities for low- to moderate-income families and seniors that are affordable, safe, and enhance the neighborhoods in which the properties are located. This blog is devoted to CHDC's Greenth Street project; a green, affordable, demonstration house that will be constructed in the Des Moines area during the summer and fall of 2008. Once completed, the house will be sold to a qualifying low- to moderate-income family.
CHDC was established in 1995 as a non-profit, community-focused organization that provides first-time home ownership opportunities to low- to moderate-income individuals and families. Through various partnerships, CHDC has been key in revitalizing distressed neighborhoods by renovating existing homes and rebuilding residences. CHDC has helped over 100 families purchase homes in the community. CHDC’s role in our community has expanded to include developing and managing housing for seniors and creating a home repair program for seniors. CHDC continues its growth through partnerships with the City of Des Moines, the State of Iowa, federal agencies, and the Des Moines business community. CHDC also works in conjunction with Neighborhood Development Corporation (NDC) to develop projects that offer both residential and commercial opportunities for the people of Des Moines and Polk County.
